1. When they trouble to swim they don’t use their tails much like other fish. They use openings in their gills to propel themselves forward, much like the engines in a jet.2. Each species has a different lure. In some, the lure is long and has what looks like a tiny squid, worm or small crustacean on the end.3. Baby painted frogfish resemble sea slugs, which are toxic. This dissuades predators and gives potential prey a false sense of security.4. The subfamilies Antennariinae and Histiophryninae have different reproductive strategies. One family has large eggs that stick, and the other produces rafts of small eggs that become part of the zooplankton.5. Many frogfish don’t have scales.
