 Losing one's family is, unfortunately, par for the course in many hunter's lives. Though usually to some creature or another, violent and unavoidable. Which only makes it more painful that Andromeda became estranged from her parents by hatred, and abuse. Sometimes humans are more cruel than any monster.
 She left soon after high school, immediately joining a college, where she met a woman; one Mary Croft, and the pair would become very, very close. On Andy's 20th birthday, Croft offered to "turn" her, revealing that she was a vampire, and thus exposing Andromeda to the world of monsters and hunters. Andy declined, but the two remained together while Mary taught her everything she knew.
 The couple would hunt together out of their dorm room, chasing down leads while Andy kept her lover fed. Yet, she would know loss again, when they stumbled across a group of trigger-happy hunters, and Mary was killed in their room while Andy was out during the day. She dropped out of college, and became a lone hunter, avoiding others unless absolutely necessary.
